HughesNet Gen5 will allow you to perform game updates, download games, and stream videos and music. You can also watch Netflix and Hulu as well as you can do some gaming with HughesNet online. However, there are some limitations as to what you will be able to play.
Multiplayer Games
You can play some casual games like Facebook Game, some MMO’S, strategy, online board and others. This type of games is not affected by latency as they do not require a rapid response such as first-person shooters are not playable with HughesNet.
What is latency?
Latency is the length of time that it takes our signal to travel from your home to the satellite in orbit above the Earth), and then down to a ground-based gateway which connects you to the internet. Data must travel approximately 45,000 miles with Satellite Internet. This causes a delay but while browsing is not noticeable, but while playing real-time games or multi-player games creates a high ping, so the connection will be unstable and unreliable.
In other words, real-time and multi-player games will not work with HughesNet.
This is a list of some games that will work:
- Farmville 2
- Criminal Case
- Minecraft
- Clash of Clans
- Candy Crush, and some others that don’t require a real-time connection.
Here is also a list of games that are not recommended for HughesNet Gen 5 to be played.
- Call of Duty
- Watch Dogs 2
- Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2
- Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
However, these games can be played if they have offline mode available. HughesNet is ideal for single players games. Such as Fallout 4, the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Tomb Raider: Rise of the Raider, & others. Once again, the majority of real-time or multiplayer games will not work with HughesNet.
Music and Video through gaming system
With HughesNet, you will be able to use your gaming system to listen to music and watch videos on Netflix, Hulu or Pandora if you have an active subscription to these services. Keep in mind, streaming uses high amounts of data, so you can use your HughesNet App to monitor your usage. Changing Netflix video quality will help you to save data as well, click here to learn more.
